Parapsychology is the study of paranormal events, including ESP, psychokinesis, and survival of consciousness after death. These parapsychology books, some written by psychics such as Sylvia Browne and John Edward, were selected from the Wolfner collection by Reader Advisor Diann Stark.

Adventures of a Psychic: The Fascinating and Inspiring True-Life Story of One of America’s Most Successful Clairvoyantsby Sylvia Browne and Antoinette May.
Describes how Sylvia Browne at age five learned that she, like many of her relatives, had psychic abilities. With the help of her "spirit guide," an Aztec-Inca woman from the 1500’s, Sylvia solves police cases, predicts future events, and contacts ghosts. Some strong language. RC 47251.

After Life: Answers from the Other Side by John Edward with Natasha Stoynoff.
Edward, an internationally acclaimed psychic medium, frequent guest on "Larry King Live," and feature of the HBO documentary "Life after Life," sets forth, with examples, the premise that the learning process and exchange of energy and love continue in the afterlife.RC 57007.

Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing by Caroline Myss.
Dr. Myss, a medical intuitive, motivates people to cure their bodies through spiritual healing. Myss draws on principles from three major religions to present her program to patients. RC 45739.

The Eagle and the Rose: A Remarkable True Story by Rosemary Altea.
Life of an English clairvoyant and medium. Altea describes the hardship of growing up in an abusive family, forced to conceal her psychic abilities. As an adult, Altea is befriended by a healer, who helps her develop her psychic gifts, and by Grey Eagle, a Native American spirit guide. RC 42849.

Edgar Cayce, the Sleeping Prophet by Jess Stearn.
Cayce, who died in 1945, was well known for his prophecies and purported psychic abilities. Through the study of files kept by the Edgar Cayce Foundation, conversations with people who knew Cayce, and interviews with people who were helped by him, Stearn assesses Cayce’s psychic abilities by concentrating on the prophecies he made. ESP in Life and Lab: Tracing Hidden Channels by Louisa Rhine.
A discussion of extrasensory perception by a co-editor of the Journal of Parapsychology, who worked on this subject at Duke University. She draws on cases researched at the school and a variety of other reported incidents. BR 00561.

Facts, Frauds, and Phantasms: A Survey of the Spiritualist Movement by Georgess McHargue.
History of spiritualism, from the Fox sisters’ spirit rappings in 1848 to the psychic experiences of Bishop James Pike. RC 7735.

The Ghost of Flight 401 by John G. Fuller.
An investigative reporter looks into rumors about the supernatural aftermath of a jumbo jet crash. In December 1972 the plane plunged into the Florida Everglades killing 101 passengers and crew members. Stewardesses, pilots, and ground crews are interrogated about apparitions they have seen since the crash. RC 12608.

Insight: Case Files from the Psychic World by Sylvia Browne with Lindsay Harrison.
Browne, a psychic, commemorates fifty years of readings by discussing the world history of psychics and her own family legacy. Presents numerous cases from her clients, who attest to her accuracy and assistance in sorting out their lives, whether it be about love, the deceased, or crimes. RC 64019.

Jeane Dixon, My Life and Prophecies: Her Own Story as told to Rene Noorbergen.
A seeress describes her function as a channel between God and 20th-century man, and lists her seven separate methods of prophecy. RC 12704.

Journey to Ixtlan: The Lessons of Don Juan by Carlos Castaneda.
A record of the author’s initiation into the mysteries of sorcery through the teachings of Don Juan, the Yaqui Indian sorcerer. Castaneda tells of approaching wisdom through hallucinogens and physical and mental exercises, and describes some of his visions and insight. RC 52862, BR 13830.

The Language of Animals: Seven Steps to Communicating with Animals by Carol Gurney.
Animal communicator describes her HeartTalk Program, which enables humans to connect spiritually with other species. Explains how to talk with animals, find solutions to behavioral problems, relocate with your animal companion, find a lost one, and face illness and death together. RC 55123.

Life after death: The Burden of Proof by Deepak Chopra.
Doctor and author of How to Know God (RC 52605) explores scientific discoveries and ancient religious traditions to address the subject of the afterlife. Posits that life and death are not separated by an impassable wall and that a person can shape what happens after death. Commercial audiobook. RC 63100, BR 17088.

The Life beyond Death by Arthur Ford, as told to Jerome Ellison.
A psychic reviews what he feels is the best material on the subject of life beyond death and describes "what it’s actually like after we die." As examples, he includes the writings of Swedenborg, William James, Stewart and Betty White, Emmet and Ruth Finley, Geraldine Cummins, and Sir Oliver Lodge. BR 1815.

Life on the Other Side: A Psychic’s Tour of the Afterlife by Sylvia Browne with Lindsay Harrison.
Expanding on The Other Side and Back (RC 48861), Browne discusses the journey beyond death to "home," where loved ones reside between incarnations. She also reminisces about her career as a psychic and how she came to accept her inherited gift. RC 51334.

Life without Death? On Parapsychology, Mysticism, and the Question of Survival by Nils O. Jacobson.
A Swedish psychiatrist uses actual case studies of mediums, mystics, and psychics to demonstrate the possibility of life after death.RC 9807.

Lives and Letters in American Parapsychology: A Biographical History, 1850-1987 by Arthur S. Berger.
Traces the development of the field of parapsychology through scientific investigation into claims of extrasensory perception, telepathy, spiritualism, clairvoyance, and poltergeists. Stories of the lives and accomplishments of the major figures are inserted into a chronology of historical events. RC 40100.

Looking for a Miracle: Weeping Icons, Relics, Stigmata, Visions & Healing Cures by Joe Nickell.
A forensic investigator of paranormal events examines the evidence relating to specific claims of the miraculous. His inquiries include the Shroud of Turin, speaking in tongues, Jeane Dixon’s predictions, and many other such phenomena. He finds the evidence unconvincing. RC 51033.

Mediums, Mystics, & the Occult by Milbourne Christopher.
A famous magician and investigator of psychic phenomena examines the apparent miracles of such people as Uri Geller, Peter Hurkos, and the Rev. Arthur Ford. Christopher views most of the phenomena skeptically, with a keen eye for possible magic techniques and scientific explanations. BR 2924.

The Men Who Stare at Goats by Jon Ronson.
Filmmaker chronicles the evolution of a secret military intelligence unit, based in Fort Bragg, whose soldiers were trained in mental, spiritual, and psychic components of conflict. Reveals their paranormal initiatives and unorthodox techniques--such as trying to kill goats by staring at them--from 1979 to postwar Iraq. Strong language. RC 60917.

My Passport Says Clairvoyant by M.B. Dykshoorn as told to Russell H. Felton.
Autobiography of the Dutch clairvoyant traces his life and psychic feats including locating buried treasures and solving murders. RC 10355.

The Mystic Healers by Paris Flammonde.
The lives and practices of such well-known mystic healers as Mesmer, Eddy, Cayce, Roberts, and Kuhlman suggest that power is often an ability to inspire faith rather than a direct link to God. RC 8662.

Old Souls: The Scientific Evidence for Past Lives by Tom Shroder.
A skeptical journalist’s account of a scientist’s extensive study of children born with unique knowledge, birthmarks, and other indicators that suggest reincarnation. Describes field trips to Lebanon and India where cases of supposed reincarnation were documented. Explores various theories for explaining these uncanny phenomena. RC 50688.

The Omega Project: Near-Death Experiences, UFO Encounters, and Mind at Large by Kenneth Ring.
A psychology professor specializing in near-death experiences (NDE), Ring studied the possible existence of encounter-prone personalities. His subjects included people who had NDE, those who said they had UFO encounters, and those with an interest in either phenomenon. Research methods, findings, and participants’ statements are included. Some strong language. RC 37740.

One Last Time: A Psychic Medium Speaks to Those We Have Loved and Lost by John Edward.
Author Edward, who claims to possess psychic powers, discusses the discovery and development of his ability to communicate with the dead. He advises others who may wish to tune in to their own special abilities and includes numerous accounts of his experiences as a medium. RC 52165.

The Other Side and Back: A Psychic’s Guide to Our World and Beyond by Sylvia Browne with Lindsay Harrison.
Well-known psychic provides a "how-to" primer with simple pointers on applying her basic perceptions of life, death, and The Other Side to improve daily existence. Discusses angel and spirit guides, past lives, the mind-body connection to health, and confronting ten deep-seated fears. Makes predictions for the new millennium. RC 48861.

Phenomenon: Everything You Need to Know about the Paranormal by Sylvia Browne with Lindsay Harrison.
Psychic and bestselling author offers an A-to-Z compendium of words commonly used in the world of the paranormal. Provides examples and explanations for everything from affirmations, alchemy, amulets, angels, and astral travel to Zarathushtra and zombies.RC 61243.

Prophecies: 4000 Years of Prophets, Visionaries, and Predictions by Tony Allan.
An overview of prophetic traditions of world cultures. Discusses China’s Yi Jing, the Aztec calendar, and African divination as well as forecasts from outstanding seers like Nostradamus and the Cumaean Sibyl. Each chapter corresponds to a source of prognostication including divine inspiration, dreams, secular clairvoyance, and logical reasoning. RC 57015, BR 3452.

The Prophecies of Nostradamus translated, edited, and introduced by Erika Cheetham.
A classic in occult and astrological literature by the sixteenth-century French physician who foresaw the events of his own and future times. According to some of his interpreters, he predicted the execution of King Charles I, the abdication of Edward VIII, the rise and fall of Hitler, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. RC 18657.

Prophecy: What the Future Holds for You by Sylvia Browne with Lindsay Harrison.
Psychic and bestselling author of The Other Side and Back (RC 48861) discusses prophesies throughout history, including those from Nostradamus (sixteenth century), Edgar Cayce (twentieth century), and Native American and other religious seers. Science and the Paranormal: Probing the Existence of the Supernatural edited by George O. Abell and Barry Singer.
A collection of twenty articles in which eminent scientists and authorities, such as Carl Sagan, Isaac Asimov, and E.C. Krupp, take a critical look at popularized paranormal phenomena, including UFOs, astrology, monsters, psychics, parapsychology, the Bermuda Triangle, catastrophism, plant sensitivity, life after death experiences, lost continents, and ancient astronauts. The Search for Bridey Murphy by William J. Barker.
Through hypnosis, the author, a young American businessman, extracts a story of his subject’s early life. Then, urging her to go back before her birth, he hears another story about an Irish woman, Bridey Murphy, who lived and died in the nineteenth century. Psychic and author of Prophecy (RC 58676) interprets some of the world’s most enigmatic places, phenomena, and objects. Using scientific sources, her spirit guide, and her own clairvoyance, Browne offers explanations for Atlantis, Stonehenge, the Sphinx, crop circles, spontaneous human combustion, the Shroud of Turin, and more. The Seeing Eye, the Seeing I: Perception, Sensory and Extra-Sensory by Rene´e Haynes.
Witty, engrossing inquiry into normal and paranormal perception. Haynes investigates hypnosis, biofeedback, weird animal senses, crisis apparition, levitation, and poltergeists. RC 11603.

The Simone Weil Reader edited by George A. Panichas.
Excerpts from the French mystic’s writings. Informative general introductions to each selection provide an overview of her philosophy.RC 14599.

Sylvia Browne’s Book of Angels by Sylvia Browne.
Psychic and author of Life on the Other Side (RC 51334) relies on personal experience and research facilitated by her spirit guide to discuss various forms, functions, and levels of angels. Describes Archangels, Cherubim and Seraphim, Virtues, Dominions, Thrones, and Principalities. Includes contributors’ stories and frequently asked questions. RC 60326.

Sylvia Browne’s Book of Dreams by Sylvia Browne, with Lindsay Harrison.
Using "mounds of research" and accounts from hundreds of letters, Browne asserts that dreams, when put into perspective, enable people to access a new wealth of knowledge about themselves. She stresses the necessity of heeding messages in dreams, which can provide a portal to the Other Side. RC 54198.

Talking to Heaven: A Medium’s Message of Life after Death by James Van Praagh.
The author tells of his life as a spiritual medium and how he has developed and used his rare gift to help others. He shares his experiences in facilitating after-death communication between grief-stricken persons and their lost loved ones, offering a positive message of a spiritual afterlife. RC 45101.

The Third Eye: The Autobiography of a Tibetan Lama by Rampa T. Lobsang.
Describes how the author left home at seven and entered the Chakpori Lamasery, the Temple of Tibetan Medicine where he learned such mystic arts as clairvoyance, levitation, and astral projection. Some doubts whether this is factual or a work of the imagination.RC 10068.

Warrior of the Light: A Manual by Paul Coelho.
A collection of philosophical sketches prefaced by the brief parable of a grown man returning to the beach of his childhood. There he is inspired to write about the "Warrior"--one who is "capable of understanding the miracle of life." RC 58430, BR 14875.

We Are Their Heaven: Why the Dead Never Leave Us by Allison DuBois.
Professional psychic medium who purports to communicate with the deceased maintains that spirits remain with the living to facilitate healing and growth. Recounts readings with grieving clients during which she revealed messages from their departed loved ones. DuBois’s work with missing-persons and murder cases inspired the television series Medium. What the Animals Tell Me by Beatrice Lydecker, with Ingrid Yates.
The author recalls her first communications with animals, and suggests how anyone can communicate with them, using only respect and love. Includes numerous stories of her nonverbal communication and offers warnings about some brand-name pet products. RC 11930.
