Reference & Manuscripts Collections

The collections of reference materials and manuscripts maintained by the Missouri State Archives, both original and on microfilm, contain a variety of information to supplement genealogical and historical research. Most of the records are acquired from individuals or societies for the purpose of preserving the records on microfilm.


Robert L. Hawkins III Collection

This collection is comprised of several series, with documents that relate to antebellum era and the Civil War. It includes minute books, scrapbooks, correspondence, biennial reports, newspapers, and maps.

UDC Winnie Davis Chapter, Jefferson City, Missouri

These records pertain to the Winnie Davis Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Jefferson City and document the activities of that organization. The bulk of the collection documents Confederate actions in Missouri during the war in the form of newspaper accounts and formal reports and messages, either to Missouri 's General Assembly or to the United States Congress. Other materials include miscellaneous pre-war records from Missouri 's General Assembly and maps of Missouri.

Documents Collection

This collection includes various documents contemporary to the antebellum and war years, such as a Pettis County bill of sale for five slaves.

Reports, Addresses, Speeches Collection

Among the documents in this collection are biennial reports from the Confederate Home in Higginsville, Missouri; an address delivered before the Pro-Slavery Convention of the State of Missouri in 1855; a United States Senate bill for the readmission of Virginia in 1870; speeches and reports delivered by Francis P. Blair; and miscellaneous correspondence.

Newspapers Collection

This series contains an assortment of newspaper clippings, dating from 1861 through 1907.

Photographs Collection

This series includes a composite photograph of the members to the 1875 Constitutional Convention in Missouri; the 1875 Constitution brought the war era to an end in the state.
