Office of the State Auditor
The state auditor's duties are defined by the Missouri Constitution and state statutes, and include establishing appropriate systems of accounting for all public officials, and auditing the accounts of state agencies. The state auditor also conducts audits and investigations as required by law, and makes an annual report to the governor and the General Assembly.

This collection includes various accounts presented to the state auditor for assessing. It includes certificates of attendance at the 1861 State Convention. The collection also contains militia paymaster's bonds (1863) for the Enrolled Missouri Militia, and militia vouchers (1862-1865, 1870). The vouchers are pay accounts of the Missouri militia, as well as claims for service in the Enrolled Missouri Militia, and claims presented and allowed after the war's end.

Handwritten copies of letters with county and state officials make up this small collection. Letters are extant for the war years of 1864 and 1865. Topics include various military funds and taxes and Union military bonds; letters referring to the state convention, with instructions regarding requisitions for warrants for members' pay and contingent expenses; immigration board; Enrolled Missouri Militia; various soldiers' concerns, including soldiers' claims and the soldiers' orphans home; and correspondence with the Paymaster General and the Quartermaster General.
