Unemployment Schedules
Because of the Great Depression, a special unemployment schedule was instituted for the 1930 census. The schedule listed names of individuals over the age of 10 who were not in a gainful occupation on the preceding day. It broke the respondents into 7 classes, A-G, ranging from the truly unemployed to individuals on vacation with pay. It also lists previous occupation; age; sex; race; nativity; marital status; period of idleness. According to the National Archives, this schedule is available as a statistical summary only.
