Central Missouri Region - National History Day
The Office of the Missouri Secretary of State is proud to have sponsored the National History Day central Missouri regional competition for many years. Students in grades 6-12 from schools in Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Maries, Moniteau, Morgan, Osage, Pettis and Saline counties research topics related to a broad annual theme (NHD Theme Narrative). The 2022 National History Day theme is Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas

Each year more than half a million students from across the globe participate in National History Day. The contests are divided into Junior Division (grades 6-8) and Senior Division (grades 9-12), with five categories per division. These categories, assembled by presentation type, include individual or group documentaries, exhibits, performances and websites or individual historical papers (NHD Student Project Examples).
The 2023 Central Missouri live regional contest is on March 2, 2023 at Columbia College. The top three finishers in each category represent the region in the National History Day in Missouri competition at the University of Missouri-Columbia. First and second place finishers at the National History Day in Missouri competition proceed to the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland-College Park.
