Central Missouri Region - National History Day

The Office of the Missouri Secretary of State is proud to have sponsored the Central Missouri Region National History Day program for many years. Students in grades 6-12 from schools in Audrain, Boone, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau, Morgan, Osage, Pettis and Saline counties research topics related to a broad annual theme (NHD Theme Narrative). The 2021 National History Day theme is Communication in History: The Key to Understanding.

Each year more than half a million students from across the globe participate in National History Day. The contests are divided into Junior Division (grades 6-8) and Senior Division (grades 9-12), with five categories per division. These categories, assembled by presentation type, include individual or group documentaries, exhibits, performances and websites or individual historical papers (NHD Student Project Examples).

Last year, the state contest became virtual to keep all students, teachers, volunteer judges and staff safe from the rising global pandemic. The national contest did the same. All regional contests throughout Missouri will be virtual this year to protect the health and well-being of everyone involved.
